Council Member Joseph D. Ayala photoCouncil Member Joseph D. Ayala was appointed to represent City Council District 1 in February 2025.

With over 30 years of leadership, communication, and public service experience, Council Member Ayala currently serves as the Director of the Proposal Development Center at Teradata, where he leads global strategy, process optimization, and AI adoption initiatives. Since 2016, he has also been a lecturer at California State University, Northridge, specializing in Public Speaking, Corporate Communications, and Group Communication. His expertise in communication and negotiation has made him a sought-after speaker at industry workshops and conferences.

A dedicated advocate for education and community engagement, Council Member Ayala serves as a Board Member for the Simi Valley Education Foundation and has been an active volunteer with the Simi Valley Police Department since 2016. His commitment to youth programs is reflected in his role as an advisory board member for Delta Upsilon Fraternity, a past member of the parent advisory committee at Vista Elementary, and a former Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Council Member Ayala holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Loyola Marymount University and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge. He is also a graduate of the McKinsey & Associates Management Accelerator Program.

A longtime Simi Valley resident, Council Member Ayala is committed to transparent governance, innovative solutions, and fostering strong community connections to ensure the City remains a thriving place to live, work, and grow.

Council Member Ayala serves on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Paratransit Advisory Committee, Regional Defense Partnership for the 21st Century, Ventura County Animal Services Commission, and the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance. He also serves as a liaison on the Simi Valley Youth Council.
