The City of Simi Valley has adopted a Stage I Water Supply Condition calling for voluntary water conservation actions, effective May 1, 2023. City of Simi Valley/Waterworks District No. 8 customers are no longer required to follow a designated watering day schedule. Customers are requested to continue making water conservation a California way of life by watering only when their lawns or gardens need it.

Residents and businesses must continue to follow permanent conservation mandates. Water only before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. to reduce evaporation. Watering is restricted to no more than 15 minutes per irrigation zone, per day (does not apply to low-flow and high-efficiency devices). Use multiple, shorter cycles to eliminate excessive irrigation runoff.

Customers are also required to follow these mandates:

• No watering during (and for 48 hours after) measurable rainfall
• Fix all leaks, breaks, or malfunctions within 7 days
• Wash individual private motor vehicles with trigger shut-off nozzle
• No washing down hard or paved surfaces such as sidewalks and driveways
• Recirculating water required for decorative water features and fountains
• No filling or refilling ornamental lakes or ponds except to sustain aquatic life

Turf Removal Rebate:

Bewaterwise.com® offers a turf removal program that provides a rebate up to $2 per square foot (up to 5,000 sq. ft.), so long as you install California Friendly® plants and a water-efficient irrigation system, as well as retain stormwater through features like permeable landscapes. The community can report water waste (example: leaks, broken sprinklers, and watering on non-designated days or non-functional turf) by filling out the City's online Water Waste Reporting Form. You can also email waterconservation@simivalley.org, or call (805) 583-6420.

If you are certain the water waste is occurring in the Golden State Water service area, you can report the incident directly to Golden State Water. If you are uncertain of the area, please fill out the City's online Water Waste Reporting Form and City staff will make sure the proper agency is notified.

How it works for residential

This no cost indoor/outdoor water survey may be conducted in-person or virtually. The in-person survey requires the presence of the homeowner or someone over the age of 18. The virtual survey is conducted with the assistance of the homeowner.

To participate, the property must be located within Metropolitan Water District's service area. Surveys are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. To request a survey, please complete the online application. The property may only receive one survey for the life of the program.

Funding is limited and submitting an application does not guarantee a survey will be provided.

The Metropolitan Water District hosts virtual landscaping and irrigation workshops on almost a weekly basis to help inform residents about turf removal, drought-tolerant plants, and irrigation systems.

When considering changes to your watering practices, there may be additional rebates to help with the cost of converting and modifying your current irrigation system.
