The City of Simi Valley/Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8 (District) is committed to delivering high-quality drinking water to over 24,000 residential, industrial, and commercial customers. The District operates an extensive potable water system within the City of Simi Valley and some unincorporated areas in Ventura County. The District’s projects consist of facility rehabilitation and replacement of aging infrastructure in addition to improvement of the District’s water distribution and storage system to meet the current design and regulatory standards.
PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
SV 23-16, WALNUT TANK 2 REPAIR AND RECOAT
Status: Under Construction
- This project would recoat the interior of the 2.0-million-gallon capacity Walnut Tank No. 2. The tank was constructed in 1992. A dive inspection identified that the tank’s interior original coating had deteriorated. Tank longevity is significantly improved, cost-effectively, by recoating. In addition, the Waterworks Facilities Assessment recommended replacing the cathodic protection system, which has been in service for 26 years.
- The construction activities started in June 2024 and it is anticipated to be completed in May 2025.
SV 24-10, WATER LINE REPLACEMENT - APRICOT/CEDAR/LEOTA (WISTERIA)/ EASTWARD/MY WAY (ROWELL)
Status: Under Construction
- This project would install approximately 800 feet of pipeline in Apricot Rd, Cedar Rd, and Leota Lane (Wisteria). The new pipelines will replace badly corroded 2" steel pipelines. By installing the new pipelines, water service reliability would improve for existing properties.
- The construction is anticipated to be completed in May 2025.
PROJECTS IN DESIGN & BID PHASE
SV 21-03, KNOLLS ZONE WATER FACILITIES PROJECT
Status: Design Phase
- This project would design and construct a new 1.0-million-gallon water storage tank to increase fire storage capacity and supply water at a higher pressure to some higher elevation lots in the Knolls Pressure Zone. The tank will be located on property acquired in the Knolls Zone. The project also includes the installation of approximately 1,100 feet of 10-inch pipeline to supply water from the proposed tank to the existing Alta Vista tanks.
- The design is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.
SV 25-34, EMERGENCY GENERATORS PROJECT
Status: Design Phase
- The project consists of the construction of emergency small generators of approximately 20 kW at four (4) existing reservoir sites: (Walnut, Madera, Mellow Lane, and Box Canyon). The objective of this project is to provide emergency power at these sites to power small loads generally consisting of the SCADA system, radios, seismically actuated valves, and, if feasible, motor operated gates. The back-up emergency power is needed to maintain operations at these sites in the event of Southern California Edison (SCE) Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) as well as other unscheduled power outages.
- The design is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.
PW 20-14, OAK KNOLLS PUMP STATION UPGRADE PROJECT
Status: Design Phase
- The pump station is the primary source of water supply for the Knolls (1404) Pressure zone and is more than 50 years old. This project would upgrade the existing Oak Knolls Pump Station by replacing the single 380 gallons per minutes (gpm) pump unit with larger pumps. The project will also consist of the construction of a new pump building, upgrading the electrical equipment, installing two new pumps and motors, and replacing the existing piping to ensure the reliability of the pump station.
- The design is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.
PW 21-02, BOX CANYON PUMP STATIONS 1 AND 2 REHABILITATION PROJECT
Status: Design Phase
- The Waterworks Facilities Assessment identified problem areas at the Box Canyon Pump Stations due to aging infrastructure. This project would rehabilitate Pump Stations No. 1 and No. 2. to improve system functionality and reliability. The project will also include the installation of approximately 4,600 linear feet of new water transmission line between Pump Station 2 and Box Canyon reservoir. The new pipeline will replace an existing 12-inch welded steel and asbestos cement pipeline originally constructed around 1964. The pipeline requires replacement due to its age, inaccessibility, and likelihood of failure.
- The design is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.
SV 24-16, WATERLINE REPLACEMENT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THE SANTA SUSANA KNOLLS
Status: Bid Phase
- This proposed project would install approximately 5,354 feet of pipeline in various locations in the Santa Susana Knolls Area. The new pipelines will replace 2-inch, 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch steel and Polyethylene Pipe (PEP) pipelines that have been repaired several times by Waterworks District staff in response to emergency failures.
- The construction is anticipated to be completed in August 2025.
PW 25-01, STOW NO. 1 TANK REPLACEMENT
Status: Bid Phase
- This project would replace Stow Tank No. 1, which has been in service since 1975, with a capacity of 1.0 million gallons. The Seismic Evaluation of the Waterworks Storage Tank System identified seismic deficiencies and recommended replacement of this tank with a new welded steel tank that meets the current seismic code requirements.
- Request for Proposal was released on March 20, 2025. The project is anticipated to be awarded on July 22, 2025.
