The Stormwater program is responsible for managing programs and activities to reduce pollutants that may be discharged into the Arroyo Simi and to comply with the newly adopted Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit issued by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board. Some of the activities covered in the Stormwater program are investigating calls for illicit discharges, business inspections and public outreach.

The Stormwater Management Program also offers a Business Assistance Program that provides information to businesses within the City of Simi Valley to help them in their efforts to reduce pollutants from entering the environment through the storm drain system. Residents who want to drain their pool must first obtain a Free Pool Encroachment Permit from the Public Works Department at City Hall by calling (805) 583-6786 or on-line at https://selfservice.simivalley.org/EnerGovProd/SelfService#/home

There are specific procedures for pool draining that must be adhered to, such as the amount of chlorine that can be in the pool water and the times that pool draining is allowed. 

Saltwater pools or spas cannot be drained to the storm drain system.  A special discharge permit must be obtained to drain the pool to the sewer system.  Please call (805) 583-6424 or (805) 583-6412 for more information.

Environmental Compliance staff coordinates the annual Coastal Cleanup Day held the third Saturday of September each year and works with residents and community groups to do cleanups throughout the year.  These events help remove thousands of pounds of trash from the local creeks before pollutants percolate into the groundwater or are carried downstream to the ocean during the rainy season.
