Simi Valley’s Iconic Welcome Corner: A Gateway to Community Spirit
The Welcome Corner, located at the northeast corner of East Los Angeles Avenue and Madera Road, serves as a warm greeting to visitors and as a symbol of community pride in Simi Valley. Surrounded by stately olive and pine trees, the area marks the west end of the City and has become a historical and cultural landmark since its inception.
Conceived in the summer of 1967, the Welcome Corner was the result of a collective effort by several community organizations. At the forefront of this initiative was Simi Valley Beautiful, which began the project before the City itself was officially incorporated. The effort was aimed at beautifying the City and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. Over the decades, many groups, including the Simi Valley Jaycees, the Kiwanis Club, youth organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, garden clubs, and City maintenance personnel, contributed to its development.
This iconic landmark continues to embody the cooperative spirit that has long defined Simi Valley, and stands as a proud testament to the volunteers and organizations who have shaped it.
Only nonprofit organizations dedicated to enhancing Simi Valley’s sense of community can participate, with a commitment to inclusivity and non-discrimination. While certain organizations with existing signs may remain in place under historic status, all new participants must adhere to these updated Policies and Procedures, ensuring the corner remains a space for groups that represent the heart of Simi Valley.
