The Area Housing Authority (AHA) of the County of Ventura Board of Commissioners is responsible for the AHA's policies, finances, operations and general oversight of the AHA. The AHA's primary mandate is to provide decent and affordable housing accommodations for very low income families, elderly, handicapped and disables .
Fair Housing
"Fair Housing" refers to a prohibition against unlawful housing discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income or other characteristics protected by law. The City complies with these requirements by contracting with experts that provide outreach and education services, take in and process fair housing-related complaints to resolution, and provide referral services.
Southern California Housing Rights Center (HRC)
Since 2008, the City has contracted with the Southern California Housing Rights Center (HRC) to provide these services. HRC provides a wide array of programs and services to its clients free of charge:
- Landlord-Tenant Counseling
- Predatory Lending Information & Referrals
- Housing Discrimination Investigation
- Enforcement & Advocacy
- Outreach & Education
Housing Discrimination Complaints
If you believe you or someone you know have been a victim of housing discrimination, please call toll-free at (800) 477-5977, or visit www.hrc-la.org. Housing Counselors are ready to provide assistance, answer questions, and supply information and resources.
You may also contact the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or the California Department of Fair Employment & Housing by calling toll-free, (800) 233-3212, regarding housing discrimination complaints.

- Ventura County Community Development Corporation - (offers education and financial coaching services to assist homeowners)
- California Department of Real Estate (offers license checks of mortgage brokers and lenders and a consumer complaint form)
- U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development - HUD (offers tips for avoiding foreclosure and contact information to HUD-approved housing counseling agencies)
