Home MenuReporting Coyote Sightings
Wildlife management falls under the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and other animal issues within the City are handled through its contract with Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS). VCAS enforces animal regulations, provides educational materials on preventing wildlife nuisances, removes deceased animals upon request, and helps with wildlife emergencies.
If your dog, cat or livestock has an interaction with a wild animal (particularly bats, skunks, raccoons and coyotes), you must immediately report it to VCAS by calling (805) 388-4341 and your veterinarian.
The purpose of monitoring human-coyote interactions is to track where coyotes are often seen and to find areas where human-coyote conflict are common. By collecting data on these incidents, educational programs can be created to work on reducing conflicts.
The City of Simi Valley works with the VCAS to put the Coyote Management Plan (PDF) into action. Residents should read the plan and take steps to remove things that attract coyotes to their property. Residents should also share this information with their friends and neighbors.
For more information on wildlife, please visit the Ventura County Animal Services website or the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website.
