City Council Members serving prior to June 21, 2010 may be eligible for retiree health premium coverage subject to meeting eligibility requirements of being age 50 or more and having served a minimum of 10 years with the City prior to retirement. City Council Members initially elected between July 1, 2010 and November 6, 2012, may elect a contribution toward a retiree health savings account. Beginning January 1, 2014, City Council Members who participate in both the CalPERS medical plan and CalPERS retirement plan are eligible for a minimal lifetime medical benefit under the Public Employee Medical and Hospital Care Act (the 2018 benefit is $26.60 per month and the 2019 benefit is $34.00 per month).
City Council Members first elected in November 2012 or later shall, in addition to salary compensation set in accordance with the California Government Code, receive a vehicle allowance and workers' compensation, Medicare, Social Security benefits, and the Public Employee Medical and Hospital Care Act minimum contribution toward medical premiums.
