Home-Based Businesses

If you plan to operate your business out of a residence, a Home Occupation Permit will be required from the City's Planning Division.  The permit places common sense limits on home-based businesses that are appropriate for residential zones; for example, home-based businesses cannot store hazardous materials.  Please refer to the Home Occupation Permit Brochure for more information.

You can download the Home Occupation Permit Form and once completed, email it to, fax it to 909-348-0465 or mail it to City of Simi Valley, 8839 N Cedar Ave #212, Fresno, CA 93720. You will receive a decision or a request for further information typically within 14 days.
