Nomination Period: July 13 Through August 7, 2026

The City of Simi Valley's next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 (coinciding with the State of California General Election), for the purpose of electing a Mayor for a term of two years and three City Council Members, one from District 1 for a term of two years, one from District 2 and one from District 4, each for a term of four years.

Simi Valley residents will vote for their City Council Member for Districts 1, 2 and 4. To determine if you live in either District 1, District 2 or District 4, please visit www.simivalley.org/findyourdistrict.

Nomination papers will be available from the City Clerk during the official nomination period, which commences on Monday, July 13, 2026 and closes on Friday, August 7, 2026. 

Should the Mayoral or Council Member incumbent for Districts 1, District 2 or District 4 choose not to file for re-election, the nomination period will be extended until Wednesday, August 12 for that seat only to allow additional time for voters to nominate candidates other than the incumbent. 

Eligibility:

• Mayor: An individual must be a registered voter, resident of Simi Valley, and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time that the nomination papers are issued to that person.  The position of Mayor is elected Citywide and interested parties may reside in any of the four districts.
• City Council Member (District 1 , District 2, or District 4): An individual must reside in the eligible districts and be a registered voter of that district.   

Persons interested in running for either Mayor or City Council are encouraged to schedule an appointment to receive information and the nomination papers by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (805) 583-6813 beginning Monday, July 13, 2026. 

The City Clerk’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• A United States citizen and a resident of California 18 years old or older on Election Day
• Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony
• Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court

Simi Valley Voters voted for their City Council Member by District for the first time in the 2020 General Municipal Election. Council Members for Districts 1 and 3 were elected in 2020 and residents of Districts 2 and 4 will vote for their City Council representatives in 2022. Residents will still vote for Mayor at Large every two years. The Mayoral seat will not be selected by District.
