The Simi Valley Historical Society held a successful kick-off celebration on April 27, 2019 at Strathearn Historical Park. We hope you had a chance to come on out and enjoy some fun.
The City Council would like to recognize businesses that have been operating in the City of Simi Valley since 1969 at an upcoming City Council meeting. If you think you know of a business (or you are the owner of such business), please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you own a business, feel free to stop by City Hall to pick up a 50th Anniversary decal for your business window. Limited quantity is available.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on June 22, at Corriganville Park, residents are invited to join Gregg Anderson, for an “On Location” two-hour walking tour to see where more than 400 movies and television shows were filmed at the Corriganville Movie Ranch from Fort Apache to today’s blockbusters.
Next, visit the Santa Susana Train Depot to see what the Corriganville Movie Ranch looked like during the heyday of filming. At 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, docents will lead presentations about the history of film in Simi Valley. Participants will also be able to explore a model of the Corriganville Movie Ranch, posters, and memorabilia.
Corriganville Park is located at 7001 Smith Road and parking is available on-site. The Santa Susana Train Depot is located at 6503 Katherine Road. Parking is available at Santa Susana Park next door. View flyer here for details.
Once you’ve learned about the history of filming in Simi Valley, mark your calendars for Saturday, July 13, 2019 for a Movie at the Civic Center featuring Captain America: The First Avenger, rated PG-13. Portions of the film were shot at Big Sky Movie Ranch, north of the City. Food for purchase will be available from the Welcome Home Soldier Foundation featuring tacos, philly cheesesteak sandwiches and the Kettle Corn Food Truck. The movie will start at dusk.

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, in honor of the City's 50th Anniversary, a Barn Dance will be held at Strathearn Historical Park & Museum. This event is sponsored by the City of Simi Valley and Rancho Simi Recreation Park & District. from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Tickets will be available soon!

The City will host a celebration on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Civic Center from 10:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. for activities for the whole family. We encourage all residents to come out and enjoy a fun-filled day with tours of the Police Department, Touch-a-Truck, and more! During the celebration, residents who have lived here since 1969 are encouraged to take part in a photo of all those who have lived in the City of Simi Valley for 50 years.
