Nominations are now open for the 2026 Community Volunteer of the Year Award, which honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the community through volunteer service.
Eligible nominees must be Simi Valley residents who have contributed volunteer service within Simi Valley over the past year. Nominations are being accepted from the community at large and from non-profit and community organizations.
All eligible nominations will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the 2025 Community Volunteer of the Year and other dedicated volunteers. The committee’s recommendation will be presented to the City Council for formal recognition. To nominate a deserving volunteer, visit www.simivalley.org/volunteering to complete the online nomination form. Submissions must be received by Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Simi Valley has a long history of civic engagement and volunteerism, from City-sponsored services and programs to a multitude of non-profit organizations that help people every day. Each year, in City-owned facilities alone, more than 600 volunteers provide over 40,000 hours of service to the City, valued at over $1.5 million!
In 2025, Peter Carrube was recognized as the Community Volunteer of the Year for more than 20 years of dedicated volunteer service, during which he contributed an impressive 800 volunteer hours to a wide range of community efforts. He served on the Executive Boards of the Simi Valley Police Foundation, Neighborhood Council #3, and Simi Sunrise Rotary, as well as the Chamber Leadership Steering Committee. His volunteer work included maintaining Happy Face Hill, building bikes through Rotary, and supporting the Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) program. Peter’s impact continues to inspire service for years to come.
