Independence Day Fireworks Enforcement

To enforce the department’s zero-tolerance policy, extra Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) officers were deployed on July 4, 2024, with a specific focus on fireworks enforcement. During this operation, officers issued seventeen citations and made one arrest. Additionally, enough illegal fireworks were seized to fill two standard 31-gallon trashcans.

Between midnight on July 4, and midnight on July 5, the Police Department received 197 calls related to illegal fireworks, a slight decrease from the 200 calls received during the same period in 2023. Officers also proactively contacted residents reported through the fireworks hotline, informing them of the consequences of participating in illegal fireworks activities.

No injuries, fires, or property damage were reported in Simi Valley due to illegal fireworks. All seized fireworks were logged and handed over to the Ventura County Bomb Squad for disposal.
