Simi Valley City Council Announces Appointment of Brian P. Gabler to the Position of Interim City Manager

Following a Closed Session meeting of the City Council on February 27, 2019, the City Council announced the appointment of Brian P. Gabler, the Assistant City Manager/Director of Economic Development, to the position of Interim City Manager. The City Council voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Gabler to the Interim City Manager position effective April 4, 2019 pending negotiations of an employment agreement. Mr. Gabler will fill the vacancy created by the announcement of current City Manager Eric Levitt’s decision to assume the City Manager position in Alameda, California.
Mr. Gabler has been with the City of Simi Valley since 1986 and has held various management positions with the City prior to his appointment to the position of Assistant City Manager/Director of Economic Development in 1999.
In making the announcement, Mayor Mashburn stated, “As a senior member of the City’s management team, Brian’s breadth of experience with the City of Simi Valley has prepared him for the duties of Interim City Manager. The City Council looks forward to working in partnership with Brian during this interim period.”
Gabler has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California. He is married to Karen Gabler and has a son, Sam, and a daughter Sarah. Gabler is a resident of Simi Valley.
