The City of Simi Valley is now accepting applications from residents who wish to share their time and talents by serving on the Simi Valley Arts Commission. The Arts Commission is responsible for reviewing the financial and operational plans for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center and making recommendations for City Council approval.
The Arts Commission is comprised of four members of the public, one Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation member, one alternate, and two City Council Members. The City is currently recruiting to fill two public vacancies. Two City Council Members will interview the applicants and make a recommendation to the City Council for appointment. The successful applicants will serve two-year terms of service from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021.
The Cultural Arts Center, located in a historic building on the corner of Church Street and Los Angeles Avenue, first opened its doors in 1995. It is a regional hub for the arts and hosts theater and dance performances, theater classes for youth, music events, and visual art exhibits. It also serves as a community facility for meetings, conferences, and special events. Over 360 events took place at the Center last year alone.
The City would like to encourage arts and entertainment professionals, business administrators with budget and finance experience, visionary community leaders, and arts supporters to apply. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the cultural and artistic activities in the community. Your efforts will help to continue the Center’s reputation of delivering excellence in the performing arts to Simi Valley.
The City is currently accepting applications through Friday, March 15, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. Applications may be submitted online at www.simivalley.org/ArtsCommissionApp.
