The City of Simi Valley Announces Write-In Nomination Period For November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election

The Simi Valley City Council voted during its June 18, 2018 meeting to consolidate the City’s General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, for the purpose of electing a Mayor for a term of two years and two City Council Members, each for a term of four years, and to submit to the voters a City measure and two advisory vote questions.
Nomination papers for write-in status for those interested in running for City Council or Mayor during the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election will be available from the City Clerk’s Office during the write-in nomination period, which commences on Monday, September 10 and closes on Tuesday, October 23. Write-in candidates’ names do not appear on the ballot, and must be written in by an elector wishing to vote for the write-in candidate on their official ballot.
In order to be eligible to hold office as Mayor or City Council Member, a person must be a registered voter, resident of Simi Valley, and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time that the nomination papers are issued to that person.
The City Clerk’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in running as a write-in candidate for either Mayor or City Council are encouraged to schedule an appointment to receive information and the write-in nomination papers by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (805) 583-6748.
