The State of California requires businesses multifamily residential dwellings with five or more units to implement recycling programs. Businesses must have a recycling program for solid waste and/or organics for each type of material that disposal levels of 4 cubic yards or more per week. Multifamily dwellings of five units or more are required to have both solid waste and organic recycling programs in place. State law changes the thresholds over time with the goal of increasing diversion throughout the state with the next change being in January 2019.
The City of Simi Valley is required to monitor compliance for all those subject to the requirements within the City.
