The Community Resource Coordination meetings began in 2017 and are intended to identify needs within the community and to assist those experiencing homelessness. The City organizes meetings on an as-needed basis to further the community's homeless prevention efforts. Once a topic has been identified, staff will coordinate a meeting with various organizations to provide opportunities to stay informed about new or existing resources available within our community. Information for upcoming meetings, as well as, previously discussed topics are available below. Those interested in receiving meeting and other information related to the Community Resource Coordination efforts are encouraged to sign up to receive email notifications to get the latest information.

2018 Ventura County Homeless Count

Volunteer Opportunity

  • Date: 02/22/2018 6:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed in Simi Valley to assist with the 2018 Ventura County Homeless Count (Count) and Subpopulation Survey that is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sites throughout Ventura County including, Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Unincorporated Areas need volunteers to conduct the Count.  The annual Count is coordinated by the Ventura County Continuum of Care, in partnership with community partners and cities.  The Count is a requirement for every community that receives federal funding from Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  This funding accounts for almost $2 million annually to support homeless service providers to assist homeless families and individuals.

Teams go out in the early morning through mid-day to places where homeless persons are know to gather. Volunteers will receive training and are out in the field for a few hours at a time, and must be at least 18 years old.  Please consider joining this important cause by signing up at www.VolunteerVenturaCounty.org.  This year, a mobile app called "Counting Us" by Simtech Solutions will be used to record the Count.  For additional information about assisting in Simi Valley, please contact Betty Eskey at (805) 579-9166 or by email at betty@samcentersv.org.
