Youth Town Hall
Each year, the Youth Council partners with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute to hold a Youth Town Hall. This event allows up to 400 middle and high school students the opportunity to hear public officials discuss local and statewide civic matters ranging from education to policy-making. To maximize participation, attendees pose their questions or share their concerns anonymously via Twitter. This year, the event was held on Friday, January 17, 2020. It is recognized as an educational activity by the Simi Valley Unified School District and approved as school business with prior teacher notification. For more information on how to attend next year's event, please contact your school’s administration.
Each year, the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit annual leadership conference. Youth Summit participants are inspired by a motivational speaker, participate in team building and leadership exercises, learn the importance of community involvement, and share lunch while discussing community issues and ideas with local dignitaries. The event takes place on a school day. It is recognized as an educational activity by the Simi Valley Unified School District and is approved as school business with prior teacher notification.
The 19th annual Youth Summit will be held on March 12, 2020. Spaces are limited to 150 high school students. Register for this free event by Thursday, March 5, 2020 (the extended deadline date). To be notified in advance for other Youth Council events, students are encouraged to sign up for the Youth Council e-notifications to receive updates and information related to Youth Council activities.

The Youth Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Community Room at 5:00 p.m., September through June. All meetings of the Youth Council are open to the public. Youth Council Virtual Talent Show
Virtual Event Highlighting Talent from Our Community
- Date: 05/29/2020 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
The Simi Valley Youth Council will host its second annual talent show online on Friday, May 29, 2020 starting at 7:00 p.m. The event will be livestreamed on both Zoom and Facebook and will spotlight the exceptional gifts and abilities of local community members of all ages. There are 17 competitive and showcase acts scheduled to perform in categories like dance, song, and the ever-entertaining "miscellaneous" field.
"The Youth Council decided that the show must go on despite the COVID-19 closures and we've spent the last two months planning the Talent Show virtually," Youth Council member and Talent Show Chair Ashley Kilmnick said. "We felt continuing with an online format would be a great way for the community to come together while remaining socially distanced."
Cash prizes will be awarded in specific categories in addition to a People's Choice winner. A panel of three judges will help select the winners. A few local organizations and individuals have sponsored cash prizes for winners, including the Simi Valley Family YMCA. Local businesses have also donated silent auction items that will be auctioned off at a future date. If individuals, families or businesses are interested in donating, please contact Kristin Tignac, Youth Council Coordinator, at (805) 583-6766.
The Talent Show was initially developed to serve as a fundraiser to help support the Youth Council's community projects and events. It will be a free event for 2020.
