In 2002, under the direction of the City Council, the City developed and adopted the City’s first Bicycle Master Plan. The purpose of the Bicycle Master Plan is to encourage the development of an integrated bicycle system throughout Simi Valley with connections to other regional bike systems. Projects identified in a Bicycle Master Plan are typically given priority for various State and Federal funding and grant programs. Since the adoption of the Bicycle Master Plan in 2002, the City has used various federal, state, and local sources of funds to complete approximately 40 miles of bicycle lanes and routes.

Using state and local funds, the City of Simi Valley has retained a consultant, Alta Planning+Design, to update the Bicycle Master Plan. Updates are necessary every five years to provide an opportunity for the public to provide input regarding the bicycle system, and qualify for State of California Bicycle Transportation Account grant funding for future bicycle projects.

The Plan Update is scheduled to be complete by the end of November 2008. The City is currently seeking the public’s input on the Plan. To view the current plan and to provide comment, interested persons may visit www.simibike.org, or call (805) 583-6794.
