Membership on the Youth Council is open to residents of the City of Simi Valley who are between the ages of 13 and 19 years of age, but members need not attend school in Simi Valley. Youth Council members serve for one year starting on July 1st and ending on June 30th of the following year. Applicants nominated for appointment are appointed by the City Council each June. Applications to serve on the Youth Council are accepted year-round. Recruitment has closed for the 2010-11 Youth Council. To apply for the 2011-12 term, please call (805) 583-6861.
Events
The Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit each February at the Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, open to all local high school students. Youth Summit participants are inspired by a motivational speaker, participate in team building and leadership exercises, learn the importance of community involvement, and share lunch while discussing community issues and ideas with local dignitaries. The event takes place on a school day and is an approved absence. Approximately 150 high school students attend each year.
